Introduction

This is a summary report of key findings from information generated from the focus group discussions (FGDs), interviews and questionnaires administered during this mapping exercise in Warrap. The exercise was conducted in Kuajok, the capital of Warrap State, and in Turalei and Wunrok in Twic County, north of Kuajok. Information was gathered from key persons in State government, international organizations operating in the State, and representatives of the local organizations.

Information generated by a focus group discussion held in Bentiu town engaging a number of organizations has been presented below to provide a flavour of capacities, constraints, and ways forward for local organizations in Unity State. Although not inclusive of all organizations, much of what was said is indicative of the general situation of others.

The Upper Nile State is one of the ten states of Southern Sudan situated on the North Eastern side of the country with a total area of 77,773km2 and an estimated population of 1,300,000 people. The state is made up of ten counties which include: Fashoda, Manyo, Maban, Panyikang, Malakal, Ulang, Longchuk, Maiwut and Baliet County. The dominant tribe is the Shilluk followed by minority tribes like the Nuer, Dinka, Arabs and the Bari speaking groups.
